Mothers with babies and children in tow lined up in the parking lot of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2213 Brooklyn Ave., Tuesday morning to receive free diapers.

Funded through the St. Joseph Foundation and Three Rivers Educational Trust Fund, the 12-week diaper giveaway program distributes thousands of diapers. Diapers will be available 9:30-11 a.m. July 9 and Aug. 13 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 9:30-11 a.m. June 25, July 30 and Aug. 27 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Barr Street and at 9:30 a.m. June 29, July 27 and Aug. 31 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on South Harrison Street.

The program started in 2002 as a way to support women in the community in their decision to have children. The program buys their diapers from Love in Deed ShareHouse. The nonprofit organization accepts donation from businesses of nonperishable merchandise that it then processes and redistributes to nonprofit organizations at a greatly reduced cost.
