Letter to the editor: What if every church fed the poor, needy?

Thursday, June 13, 2013 - 12:01 am

What if every church that had kitchen facilities actually used it more than for special occasions?

What if they used it every morning to feed the poor and needy a simple breakfast? How much more would that go to show Christ’s love to others?

This would be simple to accomplish: pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, juice, milk and coffee with no obligation or hint of obligation to donate or hear a sermon afterward, but have a pastor or vicar available if someone needs or wants to pray.

Promotion could be simple: flyers at every house in a designated area and at grocery stores and laundromats. Possibly the youth group in the congregation could handle this task.

I realize that many churches are feeding the poor and needy, and I thank you for that, but there are poor and needy in every neighborhood, and I believe it should be happening in every neighborhood.

In a city of 300 houses of worship no one should be hungry. We could and should be leading the state and nation in taking care on the poor and needy. That is our job as godly men and women.
