Hoosiers advance in College World Series

Monday, June 17, 2013 - 12:14 am

Indiana pitcher Joey DeNato didn't blink from College World Series pressure and neither did the Hoosiers.

The result -- IU shut down Louisville 2-0 Saturday night in opening round action in Omaha, Neb.

The Hoosiers (49-14) will face Mississippi State (49-18) on Monday night. Mississippi State advanced with a 5-4 win over Oregon State.

DeNato threw a career-high 136 pitches en route to a four-hit shutout. He struck out eight batters and walked three. His complete game means IU has a fully rested bullpen for Monday night.

The Hoosiers, who are 6-0 in NCAA tourney action this season, have won three of four games against Louisville this season. It's the second time they have beaten the Cardinals 2-0, both with DeNato as the starter.

Louisville (51-13) will play Oregon State (50-12) on Monday in an elimination game in this double-elimination event.

Earlier on Saturday, Indiana coach Tracy Smith was named national coach of the year after leading the Hoosiers to their first ever College World Series.
