Letter to the editor: Support the farm bill

Indiana’s farmers and forest landowners have a vital role to play in conserving our nation’s soil, water and wildlife. The farm bill recently passed by the Senate respects that role and has several important provisions to advance effective conservation — even while making cuts to address deficit reduction. This is a big achievement, and I am grateful both for Sen. Coats’ vote for the bill and for Sen. Donnelly’s work in committee and his vote in favor of the farm bill. I now hope that all of Indiana’s representatives in Congress will support a farm bill with strong conservation provisions as the House vote is scheduled in the coming days.
