Supermoon Sunday morning

Saturday, June 22, 2013 - 12:01 am

Sunday will feature the rising of the supermoon, but you may have to get up early to see it.

The moon will appear its largest of the year at about 7:32 a.m. Sunday, reports the website EarthSky (http://earthsky.org).

The “supermoon” effect results because the moon will reach its closest point to Earth for the year and, shortly after, also reach full moon size, EarthSky reports.

Supermoons usually happen a few times a year, the website says. But the moon won't be this close to Earth again until August 2014.

So if the Sunday forecast calls for clear or partly cloudy skies, set the alarm, get up and grab a cup of coffee, and step outside to see the supermoon.
