A 54-year-old Fort Wayne fitness firm is going out of business at the end of the month.Citing increased competition from new clubs entering the market, American Health Fitness Centers at 4810 N. Clinton St. and 4150 Illinois Road will close Sunday.

About 13 front-counter employees and an unknown number of part-time trainers will be affected, according to manager Rachel Hazelett.

One of those competitors, Max Fitness, has purchased American Health’s memberships, and Max Fitness employees will be in American Health facilities this week to introduce themselves and answer questions.

American Health members will be able to visit Max Fitness locations at 7245 Maplecrest Road, 9914 Illinois Road and 1415 W. Dupont Road.

In a statement, American Health Fitness said the decision to close was made with “heavy hearts and deep regret … Thank you for the privilege of letting us serve you.”
