Fort Wayne Police officer believes leaving pins in grenades the best option

Saturday, June 29, 2013 - 10:41 am

A Fort Wayne Police officer decided Saturday morning that he wasn't interested in figuring out if two grenades were live. The officer responded to an unknown location at 8:56 a.m. after a woman found guns and two grenades in a box, according to police scanner traffic. Both grenades had the pins still in them. The dispatcher asked if they were live.

"The only way to tell if they're live is to pull the pins," he said, "and I don't think I want to do that in southeast Fort Wayne."

A bomb technician verified later that they were live and took possession of them, the officer said.
