I am a great fan of the Helmholtz modern art sculpture that was recently damaged by a drunken driver. The sculpture had been given a fresh coat of paint last fall and looked very impressive in Freimann Square and when viewed from down Barr Street. It fit in perfectly with the other recently added public art in Fort Wayne’s growing arts campus. Therefore, I was relieved by comments from the Fort Wayne Museum of Art executive director that the sculpture would be restored with help from insurance money and the original artist. I do not agree with your recent column that the statue should be modified in any way or replaced with the General Wayne statue. I think it is a tragedy what occurred to the sculpture, and I look forward to the day when it is returned to its former glory.
