Man arrested in June 9 killing outside Fort Wayne Legion hall

Monday, July 1, 2013 - 4:56 pm

Fort Wayne Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the June 9 killing of Jabron Q. Totton.

Late Friday, officers found Eric Jermaine Smith, 36, of Fort Wayne and arrested him without incident. Smith was jailed on a murder charge, Fort Wayne Police said.

Totton, 37, was shot in the parking lot of the American Legion Hall in the 700 block of East Lewis Street just after 3 a.m. He had earlier quarreled inside with people, but that had been broken up, according to police. An autopsy confirmed his cause of death was from a gunshot wound or wounds and the manner of death was homicide.

Totton was the 23rd homicide victim of 2013 in Fort Wayne and Allen County.
