Monroeville cancels July Fourth fireworks

Monday, July 1, 2013 - 11:31 am

After more than 20 years of Independence Day fireworks in Monroeville, financial concerns are turning off the lights this Fourth of July.

Kevin House of the Monroeville park board, said the town decided earlier in the year to not have its usual fireworks on the Fourth of July, nor its entertainment schedule of live music to celebrate the holiday. He said the people of Monroeville likely know about the changes, but wanted to ensure area visitors are aware.

Fort Wayne's fireworks are scheduled to start at 10:15 p.m. Thursday from atop Parking Garage 2 on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, 2101 Coliseum Blvd. E. New this year: food vendors will be in Lot 12 on the north campus, starting at 4 p.m.

Coming Tuesday at news-sentinel.com and in The News-Sentinel: fireworks safety.
