Letter to the editor: What is the 'truth' about 'one flesh'?

Wednesday, July 3, 2013 - 12:01 am

“One flesh” is a term the religious misinterpret in an attempt to justify a forced marriage between a man and a woman. But, Jesus taught to love (understand) all, not just one spouse.

“Two of one flesh” is the natural product of sexual reproduction, the offspring being the “one” graced with a mix of genetic attributes inherited naturally from both biological parents, married or unmarried (makes no difference); thus facilitating and reflecting evolution, the very thing religion tries so hard to deny.

Our earliest ancestors may not have known much of the intricacies of evolution, but they could well tell that offspring resembled their biological parents and on that basis discriminate between us and them, leading to tribalism and inventive religious discrimination.

It is time mankind faced the facts and pursue “truth” rather than worshiping false religious inventions, including war, which is just a way to deal with overpopulation as it has always been.

Without truth, you have nothing but oppressive barbaric tribalism masquerading as religion.
