EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State University's Beaumont Tower will be the site of a monthlong series of music-making.The bell tower on the East Lansing campus kicks off its annual Muelder Summer Carillon Series Wednesday evening. It continues on successive Wednesdays throughout July.

The first recital will feature Stephan Burton of Eagle Mountain, Utah. Future concerts will feature carillonneurs from Michigan, Belgium, Texas, Florida and The Netherlands.

All performances start at 6 p.m. They are free and members of the public are invited to sit on the grounds around the tower.

A carillon is a musical instrument consisting of at least two octaves of bells. The first 10 bells were installed in Beaumont Tower in 1928, and 13 more followed in 1935 to make it a carillon.

The tower now contains 49 bells.
