Celebrate!

A hop, skip and a jump from Fort Wayne, Manchester University will open its campus for its annual Independence Day celebration, beginning at 8:30 p.m. today at the athletic field on the east end of campus in North Manchester.
The Manchester Civic Band will perform at 8:30 p.m. next to the Physical Education and Recreation Center, followed by patriotic presentations and kids' activities. Fireworks begin at 10 p.m. Free admission, with concessions (hot dogs, popcorn and pop) available for a nominal fee by Rotary North Manchester. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Rain date is Friday.

Dinner dance

A dinner dance takes place Monday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 1819 Reservation Drive. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Supper is at 5 p.m. and the dance, featuring music by Music Express, is 6-9 p.m. Admission is $5 a person advance, $6 at the door.
