Votes were cast by about 78 percent of the total 8,201 district delegates who were eligible to vote, the news release said. The voting took place June 22-25 via the Internet by each congregation's two voting delegates to its 2012 district convention, the denomination announced previously.
Harrison and other LCMS officers being elected at the Synod's 65th Regular Convention July 20-25 in St. Louis will be installed in September.
Harrison was active in Fort Wayne while serving as pastor from 1995 to 2001 at Zion Lutheran Church, 2313 S. Hanna St. While there, he worked with the pastor at St. Peter Catholic Church to revitalize the neighborhood around the two congregations.
Harrison was elected LCMS president in July 2010.
At the LCMS' Regular Convention, three professors from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne will be among the nominees election to other offices.
The Rev. Carl C. Fickenscher II, professor of pastoral ministries and missions, is a nominee for first vice president; and the Rev. Dean O. Wenthe, professor of exegetical theology and seminary president emeritus, and the Rev. Daniel L. Gard, professor of exegetical theology, both are nominees for Central Region vice president.
