Local spay/neuter effort led nation

H.O.P.E. for Animals did nearly 550 low-cost surgeries last month.

Saturday, July 13, 2013 - 12:01 am

H.O.P.E. for Animals led the nation in “Did You Know” campaign spay/neuter surgeries with nearly 550 in June, and the nonprofit veterinary clinic will be able to offer 200 additional spay/neuter surgeries in July for $20 each.

Puppies and kittens must be between 3 and 6 months old to be eligible for the $20 rate, a news release said. The special program is only for private owners, not for animal shelters or rescue organizations. Call 420-7729 and mention the “Did You Know” campaign to schedule a pet's surgery. Puppies and kittens can become pregnant as young as 4 months old, the news release said. The “Did You Know” campaign, which is sponsored by PetSmart Charities, is designed to reduce the number of accidental pet births.

H.O.P.E. for Animals offers low-cost spay/neuter and wellness care, education and rescue, the news release said. The clinic has completed 23,000 surgeries since opening in June 2010. For more, go to www.hope-for-animals.org.
