Quad Cities (14-11 second half, 52-42) opened the scoring. Teoscar Hernandez singled up the middle to begin the game and two batters later was singled home by the first overall pick in the 2012 draft, Carlos Correa, for a 1-0 advantage.
Fort Wayne (10-16, 53-42) answered in its half of the first inning as Mallex Smith and Diego Goris combined to tie the game at one run each. After Smith was hit by a pitch, he stole both second and third bases and scored on a Goris sacrifice fly, which was one of three sacrifice flies in the game for the TinCaps.
The River Bandits' Bobby Borchering put his team ahead 2-1 in the second inning with a solo home run off Fried (4-4) to lead off the inning. That proved to be the last run allowed by Fried, who walked just one batter.
In the third inning, the TinCaps matched power with power on a two-run home run from Goris, his first home run since June 24 at Parkview Field. The blast put Fort Wayne ahead 3-2, and the hosts built on that lead two innings later.
The TinCaps scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to stretch their lead to 5-2, as Gabriel Quintana knocked in a run and Chris Burke did the same.
Maxx Tissenbaum provided a sacrifice fly for a run in the seventh inning for a 6-2 TinCap margin, while Rodney Daal and Brian Adams each chipped in with two-out run-scoring hits in the eighth.
Six of the nine starting position players for Fort Wayne drove in a run.
Quad Cities starter Vincent Velasquez (6-4) took the loss, and Fort Wayne's Chris Nunn earned his seventh save.
