When most people think of food and Girl Scouts, they think of their favorite Girl Scout cookies.
Beginning Friday, Girl Scouts invite you to think of them and a different kind of food event — Food Truck Fridays.
Every Friday now through Sept. 27, with the exception of Aug. 30, you can find your favorite local food trucks 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana office, which is located in the Dupont Office Park at 10008 Dupont Circle Drive East, behind Dupont Hospital.
Affine, Bravas, The Getaway Grill, JumBys JoiNt, Ragin' Cajun, Spicer's Food Truck and Whip & Chill all are participating in the event, a Girl Scouts news release said.

Fruity waffles debut
Every few months, IHOP freshens its menu with a new spin on its classic breakfast offerings. July is no different, as the chain is rolling out Sweet Cream Topped Belgian Waffles.
Now through Sept. 8, patrons can try the classic waffles topped with a cooled, vanilla cream in three varieties: berries and cream (blueberries, strawberries), cherries and cream (with dark chocolate drizzle), and bananas and cream (with honey-roasted pecans).
IHOP is located at 4403 Coldwater Road, 1535 W. Washington Center Road and 6839 W. Jefferson Blvd.
Gourmet pizza down on the Hawkins farm
This Friday, Hawkins Family Farm's “Pizza Friday” event will go gourmet during a first-ever Fridays on the Farm event 5-8 p.m. at the farm, 10373 N. 300 E. near North Manchester.
Guest chef Jennifer Disler of Roanoke will use local ingredients, including smoked duck and pastured rabbit, to create gourmet pizzas available along with the farm's regular pizza menu, a news release said. The regular pizzas include margherita, Hawkins Farm sausage and Hawkins Farm pepperoni.
All pizzas are made with locally sourced ingredients and baked in an outdoor, wood-fired brick oven, the news release said. Standard pizzas cost $10-15 each; Disler's specialty pizzas will sell for $19-21. You can pay by cash, check or credit card.
Pizzas can be carried out or enjoyed picnic-style on the farm, the news release said. If you plan to eat there, the farm suggests you bring blankets, table service and beverages. There are no napkins, utensils, tables, trash cans or beverages available, and plan on taking your trash with you.
All profits from Fridays on the Farm benefit the Hope CSA, a nonprofit ecumenical teaching ministry that offers both experiential learning and academic study to help pastors become healthier and more effective leaders, the news release said.

Wine lovers from around the world will gather Wednesday-Friday in West Lafayette as Purdue University plays host to the annual Indy International Wine Competition.
The public can watch the judging 10 a.m.-3 p.m. each day in the Memorial Union ballrooms, a university news release said. You also can witness the Wine of the Year taste-off 11 a.m.-noon Friday.
This is America's largest scientifically organized and independent wine competition, and the fourth year in a row it has been held at Purdue, the news release said. The Purdue Wine Grape Team assembled a panel of 50 judges, who will evaluate more than 2,200 entries.

Auburn Burger King reopens
The Burger King restaurant at 1105 W. 7th St. in Auburn has reopened after a major remodeling, its owner, Quality Dining of Mishawaka, said in a news release.
Along updating to Burger King's current restaurant design, the work included installing cafe-style seating; a lounge area with flat-screen HDTV; free Wi-Fi; and an “Internet Zone” where customers can use Burger King computers to check email and browse the Internet, a news release said.
In addition, the restaurant will have a double-lane drive-thru window and a Coca-Cola Freestyle fountain drink station, the latter of which offers more than 100 regular and low-calorie varieties of soft drinks, water, sports drinks, lemonades and sparkling drinks, the news release said.
The menu will include salads, wraps, smoothies, soft serve cones and sundaes, as well as Whopper, chicken sandwiches and french fries, the news release said. Special items on the menu for summer include barbecue pulled pork and Memphis barbecue rib sandwiches, sweet potato fries and frozen lemonades.
