Vera Bradley has asked Allen County Council to approve a “phase in” that would save the company more than $2 million in taxes on its latest expansion.

The Fort Wayne-based maker of women's accessories announced last week it would invest about $26.6 million to expand its facility near Interstate 69 and Lafayette Center Road, creating about 128 jobs over four years. According to paperwork filed with the county's Department of Planning Services, the jobs would pay an average of between $36,700 and $75,000 annually.

Tax phase-ins, formerly called abatements, temporarily reduce taxes owed on new buildings or equipment. Council will consider the company's request Aug. 15.
