Register now for Girls on the Run program

Registration is underway now for Girls on the Run of Allen County, a program that helps girls in grades 3-5 build self-esteem and healthy lifestyle habits.Volunteer coaches will meet with groups of eight to 15 girls twice a week Aug. 26-Nov. 6, a news release said. Each girl will be paired with an adult running buddy, and they will train to run t he River City Rat Race 5K on Oct. 27.

Group meeting times and locations are:

*New Haven Intermediate School, 900 Prospect Ave., New Haven, 3:45-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays

*The YWCA Northeast Indiana, 1610 Spy Run Ave., 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays

*St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4910 Trier Road, 3-4:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays

*St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 1502 E. Wallen Road, 2:45-4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays

Participation fees range from $25-$110, based on a sliding scale for household income. The fee includes a T-shirt, water bottle, all materials, 20 classes and race registration fee.

To register online or download a paper registration form, visit www.girlsontherunofallencounty.org. Registration forms also are available at each program site. Registration ends Aug. 23. Openings at each site will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
