Only one injury, apparently minor, reported

Sunday, August 18, 2013 - 9:15 am

Eight people escaped from a fire in an apartment building at 1905 Hillsdale Ave. late Saturday, Fort Wayne Fire Department firefighters reported.

All those who escaped are adults. Only one was taken to a hospital after the fire, and firefighters said that person was in good condition.

The fire was reported at 11:23 p.m., and firefighters arrived at 11:27. They said the fire was under control 16 minutes after they arrived.

The first crew that arrived at the fire found smoke coming from the upstairs apartment and then saw fire in the apartment’s bathroom and put it out.

Other firefighters searched the remaining apartments and found that everyone had made it out. Five people were upstairs and three were downstairs at the time the fire broke out.

Investigators report the structure had moderate smoke, fire and water damage.

The fire remains under investigation. The Fort Wayne Fire Department was assisted by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Three Rivers Ambulance Authority and American Red Cross.
