Thursday, August 22, 2013 - 8:48 am

TOM DAVIS, News-Sentinel sports editor

Woodlan over Bellmont - Warriors have crept closer each of the past two seasons.

Garrett over Eastside - Noah Follett takes advantage of young Blazers.

New Haven over Heritage - A lot of people are saying not to sleep on 'Dogs as an NHC title chaser.

Carroll over Goshen - Chargers claim the second straight "Cheviron Cup."

Warsaw over Columbia City - Two pretty equal teams decided by home-field advantage.

East Noble over Northrop - Knights believe this could be a very good season.

Homestead over Huntington North - I sense upset, but then I realize Sparty didn't graduate Chad Zolman.

Bishop Dwenger over South Side - Archers are better, but Saints are the best (in the SAC).

Snider over Bishop Luers - Young Lindsay gets rude welcome to head coaching.

Wayne over Anderson - Tribe gets taught a lesson about football in Fort Wayne.

THE PIG, News-Sentinel football expert

Woodlan over Bellmont - Warriors get Week 1 victory for first time since 2006.

Garrett over Eastside - Railroaders open the season with a victory.

New Haven over Heritage - Bulldogs' Jordan Hogue the most unappreciated player in the area.

Carroll over Goshen - Chargers have skill in bunches.

Warsaw over Columbia City - Good test for Eagles on the road, but they will fall short.

Northrop over East Noble - No Brockhouse? No problem for Bruins.

Homestead over Huntington North - This game will be lower scoring than in years past.

Bishop Dwenger over South Side - Time to find out if the Archers can live up to pre-season hype.

Snider over Bishop Luers - Both teams inexperienced, but Panthers pull it out.

Wayne over Anderson - Good confidence builder to start the season for Generals.

Glenn Marini, WANE-TV sports director

Woodlan over Bellmont – Warriors will ride Bennett to a solid 2013 season.

Garrett over Eastside – Graduation hit both hard, but Garrett returns QB.

New Haven over Heritage – Pats have to replace best class in program history.

Carroll over Goshen – Chargers could end Homestead's NHC dominance.

Warsaw over Col. City – McClone is a beast in Warsaw's backfield.

East Noble over Northrop – Knights return too many offensive weapons.

Homestead over H. North – This will not be a blowout & Vikes could win.

Dwenger over South Side – South has athletes, but Saints have depth to win in 4th.

Snider over Bishop Luers – Both teams replacing a lot, 5A Snider has more bodies.

Wayne over Anderson – Generals took lumps, finally playing juniors & seniors.

JOE WHELAN, WANE-TV weekend sports anchor

Woodlan over Bellmont – Jaylin Bennett is handful in the Warriors backfield – he leads them to a win.

Garrett over Eastside – The Railroaders may only return five starters, but one of those is Noah Follet and that's enough for another strong season.

New Haven over Heritage – Heritage lost a ton from a season ago and the Patriots will have a hard time staying in front of Jordan Hogue.

Carroll over Goshen – The Chargers are reloaded behind the Tranquill brothers and will start the season off with a win.

Warsaw over Columbia City – The Eagles have some big pieces to replace in 2013 and starting on the road will be a challenge.

Northrop over East Noble – The Bruins may be without Colin Brockhouse, but their defense is big and mean behind Austin Pearson.

Homestead over Huntington North – The Spartans always find a way to reload and they are dangerous once again.

Bishop Dwenger over South Side – I like the Archers to make some noise this season in the SAC, but the Saints looked very good in their scrimmage.

Snider over Bishop Luers – Both teams replace a lot, but losing 19 starters is too much to overcome for the Knights in the opener.

Wayne over Anderson – 2013 is the year the Generals start turning the corner – and it begins in week one.
