Local briefs: Warrior women 5th in golf tourmey

The Indiana Tech women's golf team, led by a five-over par 77 by freshman Courtney Dye, sits in fourth place after the first round of the Crusader Classic at Treetops on Monday. The Warriors finished the first round with a 336 (+48) with Dye leading the charge tying for second after the first day while fellow freshman Wiebke Schlender and Tamina Römer carded an 83 and 87 to finish tied for 13th and tied for 27th, respectively.

Also scoring for the orange and black were junior Julia Browning 89), sophomore Rachel George ( 95) and senior Tina Mettert (from New Haven, 113).

Competing individually for Tech was Enon, Ohio native Haley Larson who turned in a 93 and was fifth on the team on the day.

Bethel leads by three strokes over Ashland after the first round, carding a 316 (+28). Host Madonna sits in third with a 333 (+45) while Tech and Marian (338) round out the top five in the nine-team tournament.

Nicole Trivisonno leads all individuals with a first-round 74 (+2) while Dye and two others sit three shots back.
