A Fort Wayne man has been charged with rape, three other felonies and a misdemeanor after he was captured by police after a disturbance at a Motel 6 in Fort Wayne on Aug. 21.
Demetrius Eldridge, 19, of the 3100 block of Sundale Drive, was charged with rape, a Class A felony; criminal deviate conduct, a Class A felony; sexual battery, a Class C felony; criminal confinement, a Class D felony; and resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.
According to court documents, Eldridge surprised a woman with whom he had fathered a child. The mother arrived at the motel to pick up the child, but she said she believed another man would hand off her child to her. Instead, she told police, Eldridge dragged her inside the room and raped her while the infant was in the room.
Fort Wayne Police were called to the motel at about 3:30 p.m. by a caller who described the suspect and what he was wearing. When the first officer arrived on the scene, he found a man matching the description of the suspect standing near the motel. He ran off as soon as he saw a police car, but other officers arrived soon after and captured the suspect, who police say was Eldridge.
