Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested an Illinois man Sunday at Jellystone Campground on felony battery charges after allegedly seriously injuring a Columbia City woman.

Deputies and emergency workers responded at 11 a.m. to a laundry/restroom facility at Jellystone, 1916 North, County Road 200 North, Pierceton, after receiving a call of an injured 24-year-old Columbia City woman. Officers arrived and summoned detectives after being told the woman had allegedly been severely battered by a man identified as Michael Patrick Zimny, 54, Glenwood, Ill., according to a news release. The woman was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital reportedly in critical condition.

Detectives were told the victim had entered the laundry area where a confrontation ensued over the use of an operable clothes dryer unit. The victim was reportedly injured in the front temple and eventually went unconscious as she tried to return to her campsite, according to the news release.

Officers arrested Zimny on a preliminary charge of felony aggravated battery with substantial risk of death. He was being held without bond on a prosecutorial hold by the Kosciusko County prosecutor's office.

Pierceton Fire Department, Multi-Township E.M.S., and the prosecutor's office assisted in the case.
