BLOOMINGTON — About 100 protesters gathered in Bloomington for a rally against possible U.S. military strikes in Syria.

Many of those at Monday's rally on the downtown square were members of the Bloomington Peace Action Coalition or the Unitarian Universalist Church.

Rally speaker David Keppel tells The Herald Times he believes it's wonderful that many Republican congressmen are skeptical of U.S. military involvement and are in agreement with anti-war protesters.

Keppel says he hopes congressmen remember the lessons of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars as they consider President Barack Obama's request for military action against Syria in retaliation for a chemical weapons attack.

Unitarian Universalist Rev. Bill Breeden told the crowd he wants the White House "fumigated" to rid it of whatever "virus" causes presidents to use military force.
