TERRE HAUTE — An autopsy shows a 3-year-old boy left inside a pickup truck in Terre Haute died of hyperthermia.
Vigo County Coroner Dr. Susan Amos tells the Tribune Star that the autopsy Monday showed it became too hot inside the truck for the boy.
Amos says the child's body temperature was 108 degrees when taken at a hospital emergency room Friday. Attempts to revive the child were unsuccessful.
The high temperature in Terre Haute on Friday was 95.
Police have said the father and witnesses told them the boy normally would have been dropped off at a daycare and that the father didn't realize the child was still in the truck when he arrived at work about 10:30 a.m. A co-worker found the boy about four hours later.
