A challenge awaits IPFW women's basketball coach Chris Paul and his Mastodons. The 2013-14 schedule was announced Tuesday and the team will play three Big Ten schools as well as participate in the Preseason WNIT. The schedule is highlighted by a home contest against Indiana on Nov. 12. IPFW will travel to Michigan State on Dec. 1 and to Purdue one week later.

The Mastodons begin their season Nov. 8 when they travel to Wichita State to play the Shockers in the Preseason WNIT. They will also play Preseason WNIT games Nov. 15 and 16 against opponents yet to be named.

“We are excited about the upcoming season and the schedule we have put in place,” Paul said in a university news release. “Being invited to participate in the WNIT says a lot about the direction of our program, and opening the tournament at Wichita State is very exciting. Playing three Big 10 schools and being able to have Indiana as a home game gives our players the experience needed to make a run at a Summit League title this season, which is our ultimate goal.”

Other games in December include a home game against Indiana Tech on Dec. 11 and a game at Ball State on Dec. 29.

The Mastodons begin Summit League play Jan. 9 at North Dakota State. They will play 14 league games before the Summit League tournament in early March.

The Mastodons return four of five starters from a season ago, including Summit League Player of the Year Amanda Hyde, who averaged 18.6 points per game and was named the Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association Scholar Athlete of the Year.
