INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana's unemployment rate fell three-tenths of a percentage point for August to 8.1 percent. Allen County saw a 1.6 percentage-point drop to 7.1 percent.
Figures released Friday by the state Department of Workforce Development show Indiana's jobless rate is still higher than the national rate of 7.3 percent.
The drop in the state's unemployment rate is the biggest one-month decline since early 2011, but Indiana's jobless figure has been stuck in the 8-9 percent range for more than a year while national employment has improved.
The new report shows nearly 240,000 people looking for jobs last month in Indiana.
Sullivan and Fayette counties have the state's worst unemployment marks, both at least 10 percent.
Indiana's jobless rate is lower than neighboring states other than Ohio.
