Archers fall to 2-4 after loss to Indy Arsenal Tech

Saturday, September 28, 2013 - 2:45 am

Friday's game between South Side and host Indianapolis Arsenal Tech ended early after a melee saw both benches clear, with players, coaches and even some fans getting involved.

The incident began late in the third quarter with Arsenal Tech leading 24-6 when South Side senior Dionte Walker made a tackle on the Titans' sideline that resulted in a flag for a late hit.

A video of the incident obtained by WANE-TV shows both teams' players shouting back and forth as coaches and officials attempt to separate the two squads.

Shortly after, two coaches – one from South Side and one from Arsenal Tech – appear to exchange words, with one coach throwing a punch, causing chaos to ensue as some joined in the confrontation while others attempted to get the teams back to their respective sidelines.

Police on the scene brought order to the situation and the remainder of the game was cancelled.

No arrests or injuries were reported.

Attempts by The News-Sentinel to get in contact with those involved were unsuccessful.

This is the fourth consecutive season that Arsenal Tech and South Side have played, with the Titans winning the previous three meetings.

It is unknown what disciplinary action will be taken on the teams by the IHSAA and the respective schools.
