Best-selling children's book author and illustrator Jan Brett will stop at 5 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Jefferson Pointe mall as part of 24-market national tour to promote her new book, "Cinders: A Chicken Cinderella."

The book was inspired by her flock of 75 show chickens, her publicist, Rhalee Hughes Perry, said. Brett, who lives in Norwell, Mass., is an award-winning breeder of fancy chickens.

During her appearance here, Brett will give a demonstration on how to draw a chicken like the ones featured in her new book, Hughes Perry said. Brett also will talk about the inspiration for the book and then sign copies of her books.

"Cinders" is a "snowy version" of the Cinderella tale, set in 18th century Russia, a news release said. Brett traveled to Russia and did extensive research to capture the historic architecture and clothing in detail in her illustrations in the book.

Aimed at children ages 3-5, the 32-page book is scheduled to be released Nov. 5 in hardcover with a list price of $17.99, the news release said.

Brett's best-selling children's books include "The Mitten," "Hedgie's Surprise," "Daisy Comes Home," and "The Three Snow Bears." She currently has 38 million books in print.
