Short chase ends with crash into porch

Tuesday, October 8, 2013 - 8:15 am

Two male suspects who reportedly led police on a brief chase through southeast Fort Wayne on Monday night were caught – first by a utility pole, then by a porch, and moments later by police.

Fort Wayne Police say both suspects are listed in serious but stable condition at a local hospital.

Police say the chase began at about 9:35 p.m. after a Fort Wayne Police Department Gang Unit tried to pull over a 1995 Chevy Camaro for a speeding violation at Holton and Fisher streets.

The car initially slowed and pulled over as though the driver was preparing to stop, police said. Instead, the vehicle proceeded south on Holton at high speed.

The vehicle continued south on Holton, but the driver lost control, ran off the street and hit a utility pole in the 3200 block of Holton, shearing the pole in half.

The vehicle continued out of control and eventually crashed into the front porch of a home on the northwest corner of Holton and Drexel streets, police reported.

One of the suspects was trapped and had to be freed by Fort Wayne firefighters.

Investigating officers found a handgun in the car while helping the pair hurt in the crash.

Police said they would release the names of the two suspects after appropriate notification is made to their immediate relatives.

The incident is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County prosecutor’s office.
