The move from Class A to 2A this year hasn't bothered the Canterbury boys soccer team yet. The Cavaliers, who captured the Class A state title each of the last two years, beat Northrop 2-1 on Saturday in a game that went to penalty kicks to decide a winner.
The Cavaliers made three penalty kicks by Brandon Renninger, Britt Watts and Ryle DeJong. Goalie Robbie DelBello stopped the first two Bruins penalty kicks, and the third hit the crossbar to give Canterbury the title.
Northrop got on the board first in the game on a goal by Josh Mahon. Canterbury was able to tie the score in the second half with a goal from DeJong.
Canterbury, 11-7-1, advances to the Carroll Regional where it will play Bellmont at 6 p.m. Thursday. Bellmont trailed South Side 1-0 at halftime of the Bellmont Sectional championship Saturday, but goals by Joel Harvey and Sam Ainsworth in the second half gave the Braves the title.

In the second game of the Carroll Regional, North Side, 10-5-2, will play DeKalb 15-3.
In Class A action Saturday, Bishop Luers won the South Adams Sectional with a 7-1 win over Heritage as J.D. Hoya had two goals to lead the Knights. Luers, 15-3, will play Westview in the second game of the Garrett Regional on Thursday.
Lakewood Park Christian, 15-2, will play Blackhawk Christian, 10-4-4, at 5 p.m. Thursday in the first game at Garrett. Both teams won by identical 4-0 scores in their sectional title games Saturday. Lakewood Park Christian beat Garrett at Garrett. Blackhawk Christian won its own sectional by beating Concordia Lutheran.
Matea Knispel had a goal and an assist as Carroll won its own Class 2A sectional with a 2-0 win over Snider. Jessica Fey had the other goal.
Carroll, 12-5, will play Homestead, 13-2-4, at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the first game of the East Noble Regional.
In the second game at East Noble, Bellmont, 12-6, will play DeKalb, 15-2. Bellmont won the Norwell Sectional with a 1-0 win over South Side on Saturday while DeKalb beat Leo 2-1 in overtime.
In Class A action Saturday, Bishop Luers won its own sectional with a 1-0 victory over Concordia Lutheran. The Knights, 13-4, will host Eastbrook in the regional championship Saturday at the Fort Wayne Sport Club.
