Wednesday, October 16, 2013 - 2:30 pm

One man is dead and another in serious condition after a double shooting Tuesday afternoon. After an autopsy Wednesday, the Allen County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the dead man, Brenzel W. Bryant, 18, of Fort Wayne, was killed by a gunshot wound or wounds. His death was ruled a homicide, the 36th of 2013 in Fort Wayne and Allen County. The men were shot at around 3:47 p.m., according to a news release from the Fort Wayne Police Department. Officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of Smith Street to investigate reports of a shooting; responders found two men in the yard of a residence. Both had apparent gunshot wounds. The victim who survives, identified by police as Jovan D. Sims, 18, of Fort Wayne, was judged to be in serious condition at the scene and was able to communicate with police officers. Bryant was judged to be in critical condition and was unresponsive. Both were taken to local hospitals, and Bryant died. Two handguns were found in the back yard of a nearby residence, the release said, with both weapons believed to be part of the shooting. Investigators are searching for witnesses, and no motive for the shooting has been established.
