Then starting at 6:30 p.m. on Halloween, Deer Park will have its traditional pumpkin weighing contest and solemn procession for the “Dramatic Drop.”
This year's gourd was retrieved from southern Indiana near Richmond. It is huge, according to Deer Park owner Tony Henry. Patrons will guess the weight of the pumpkin. An authentic Toledo scale will weigh the pumpkin. After the weighing, a candlelight procession, accompanied with a snare drum roll, will proceed to the rear of the pub where the pumpkin will be hoisted 40 feet to a platform on the billboard.
The person winning the pumpkin weight contest gets to cut the rope, allowing the pumpkin to fall.
Costume karaoke with Bucca Baby will happen later in the evening. On Oct. 5, Renee Moore, owner and manager of Broadway Deli, 504 Broadway St., New Haven, participated in ChiliFest at Headwaters Park. Broadway Deli won third place in the “Red Chili with Beans” and the “Restaurant” categories.
