Fort Wayne, Allen County schools among those receiving school safety grants

All four Allen County school districts will receive money from the state to help with school safety.

Gov. Mike Pence announced Friday more than $9 million in grant funding to local schools and school corporations through the Secured School Safety Grant Program.

Among those receiving money:

*East Allen County Schools received $50,000 for school security equipment - something that restricts access to the school or speeds up the notification of first responders – and to employ a school resource officer – a program that assigns police officers to schools.

*Fort Wayne Community Schools received $50,000 to employ a school resource officer.

*Southwest Allen County Schools received $50,000 for school security equipment.

*Northwest Allen County Schools received $50,000 for school security equipment.

In Wells County:

*Bluffton-Harrison received $39,890.55 for school security equipment.

*Northern Wells Community Schools received $50,000 to employ an school resource officer.

*Southern Wells Community Schools received $28,128.45 for school security equipment.

In Whitley County:

*Smith-Green Community Schools received $20,411.60 for school security equipment and to employ a school resource officer.

*Whitley County Consolidated Schools received $50,000 for school security equipment.
