Would-be robber killed during Fort Wayne home invasion, police say

Monday, November 4, 2013 - 12:45 pm

A man was shot dead early Monday morning after he and a second would-be robber invaded an apartment at the Black Bear Creek complex, 1680 Reed Road, Fort Wayne Police said.

Police are still looking for the second apparent robber; all they know about him at this point is that he is male and was able to get away.

Three people were in the apartment at the time of the 6:20 a.m. intrusion: a male, who was wounded and was taken to the hospital in serious condition; a woman; and a child. The woman and the child were not hurt.

After an autopsy Monday, the Allen County Coroner's Office ruled the man's death a homicide. It is Allen County's 40th homicide of 2013.

The man's name was expected to be released Tuesday morning once his family was notified of his death, according to a news release from the coroner's office.
