He'll team with fellow linebacker Jerrell Freeman to try to lead the Colts to a home win over the St. Louis Rams at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Here's a quick look at Angerer:
Ht: 6-0; Wt: 238; Age: 26; College: Iowa; How acquired by the Colts: Drafted in the second round (63rd overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.
Fast facts: Has 52 tackles (24 solo) and one interception (vs. Denver's Peyton Manning) so far this season after totaling 57 tackles (29 solo) in 11 games in 2012. …Ranked fourth in the NFL in tackles in 2011 with 146. …An Iowa native, Angerer is married and he and his wife, Mary Beth, have one son, Cael.
Angerer on appreciating being healthy again: “Yeah, definitely. Long road to get to now. A lot of people put a lot of work into it. A lot of doubts. Doubts start to creep into your mind. It's nice to finally be out there contributing.”
Colts defensive coordinator Greg Manusky on Angerer: Last year, he got banged up a little bit in the beginning of the season. In the preseason, he got a foot injury, came back, and wasn't really quite right. This past year, he got banged up a little bit more in training camp but then he came back and he kept on getting better and better. Just the process with him, I think that's what it is. Just lately, he's been making some plays, which he should have been doing early but now he's getting into the rhythm of things and seeing things the way he should be seeing them. Him and (Jerrell) Freeman are working well together.”
Angerer on if the defense is continuing to develop more as a unit: “We really haven't played together that much. There's still a lot of work that needs to be done. But once we really start to get a grip of things and get a grasp of things, I think the sky is the limit. Our coordinators are making so many good adjustments. From the time we're off the field, we're constantly getting coached, constantly trying to get perfect. It seems to be working.”
Angerer on fellow linebacker Jerrell Freeman: He's a hell of a player. Great teammate. He can do so many things. They ask a lot out of him and he delivers all the time. That's a fun guy to play with.”
Angerer on if the team feeds off the home crowd: “Yeah, you can. They just bring so much. It definitely lifts you up a lot. Sometimes it gets so loud, we can't even talk to each other so we don't know what we're doing so we just play. It's great.”
Angerer on why the Colts are so good at comebacks: We've just got a good group of guys, good hardworking guys, just great players all around. It definitely helps to have Andrew Luck at quarterback. That guy is unbelievable. We put him in so many tough positions and he's bailed us out a lot. It's nice.”
