EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. — Actor Alec Baldwin has donated $1 million to the East Hampton public library.
Library officials say the gift brings them "close to the finish line" for the library's expansion.
Newsday reports that it has taken the library a decade to raise the $6.2 million for the project.
Baldwin is a resident of neighboring Amagansett. He has made two other donations to the library — $250,000 in 2011 and $10,000 in 2010.
The library's new 60-seat auditorium will be named the Baldwin Family Lecture Room. It will be a high-tech facility where patrons can link to the New York Public Library and cultural organizations around the globe.
It's expected to be finished by spring.
