EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. — Actor Alec Baldwin has donated $1 million to the East Hampton public library.Library officials say the gift brings them "close to the finish line" for the library's expansion.

Newsday reports that it has taken the library a decade to raise the $6.2 million for the project.

Baldwin is a resident of neighboring Amagansett. He has made two other donations to the library — $250,000 in 2011 and $10,000 in 2010.

The library's new 60-seat auditorium will be named the Baldwin Family Lecture Room. It will be a high-tech facility where patrons can link to the New York Public Library and cultural organizations around the globe.

It's expected to be finished by spring.
