MUNCIE — Another Indiana university opposes a proposed Indiana constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage.

Ball State's University Senate voted 51-9 Thursday to approve a motion opposing the legislative resolution calling for the amendment.

The Star Press reports the administration of Ball State President Jo Ann Gora asked the senate comprised of faculty, staff and students to approve the motion and helped draft its language.

Indiana University, DePauw University and Wabash College have joined the bipartisan Freedom Indiana coalition working to defeat the proposed amendment. Purdue University has chosen to remain neutral.

Indiana law already bans same-sex marriage but backers of the amendment say it's needed to block possible court rulings that would overturn the law. If the Legislature approves the amendment next year, it would go before Indiana voters.
