An increase in licensing fees for horse-drawn buggies has been delayed at least a week so Allen County officials can discuss the proposal with the Amish and other affected groups.

The county commissions have proposed increasing the annual fee from $30 to $38 next year, $46 in 2015 and $55 in 2016. A vote had been scheduled for Friday but will be delayed pending further discussion, officials said. The fee has not been increased since 1997.

Also on Friday, the commissioners today approved a resolution asking the Indiana General Assembly to name a portion of the new US 24 in honor of former state Rep. Phyllis Pond, R-New Haven, who was elected in 1978 and was the longest-serving female legislator in the state's history before her death Sept 22.
