Mastodons are riding two-game win streak

Wednesday, November 20, 2013 - 6:19 am

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Gates Sports Center

On the air: ESPN 1380-AM

Records: IPFW (3-2), Purdue-Calumet (5-1)

Expected starters for the Mastodons: Steve Forbes – 6-9, redshirt junior center; Michael Kibiloski – 6-7, senior forward; Luis Jacobo – 6-5, junior forward; Isaiah McCray – 6-0, junior guard; Pierre Bland – 6-2, senior guard.

Update: The Mastodons are riding a two-game win streak after beating both Texas-Pan American (66-60) and Tennessee Tech (69-66) over the weekend. IPFW is just two points shy of being a perfect 5-0 at this early point in the season. Jacobo was injured (wrist) less than 48 hours prior to the Mastodons' season opening game at Dayton, and subsequently missed the team's first three games. However, he returned to action last Saturday against Texas-Pan American in a big time way. The senior forward scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds and after another strong performance against Tennessee Tech (20 points, 10 rebounds), he was named as the Summit League Player of the Week on Monday. IPFW is also getting great play from interior players Steve Forbes (12 points per game) and Joe Reed (10.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game). Senior point guard Pierre Bland has been sensational early on in running the Mastodon offense, as he has passed out 24 assists, while only turning the ball over five times. His backcourt mate Isaiah McCray has also been very good (15 assists, four turnovers), while the two have a combined 15 steals.
