This Thanksgiving, as we look back over the past 14 years in our neighborhood, we see transformations like those that are only imagined in our wildest dreams. Everywhere you look, you see revitalization and transformation. The jaws of visitors drop as they feast on the beauty of the many venues that are now available to them and our citizens.

It is easy to see the beauty of today and dream of even better tomorrows, but we also need to remember the men and women who worked within our neighborhoods day after day to make them safe for our families, citizens and new development.

So many things have changed, yet the dedication of our city, county and state police officers and firefighters to our communities has never wavered. It’s part of who they are.

Every officer and firefighter, past and present, put on that uniform to serve and protect us, our family and property because we couldn’t do it alone.

As a police officer or firefighter, you are owed a debt of gratitude from all of us for putting on that uniform to serve and protect our communities. Your dedication has helped make our cities and neighborhoods what they are today.

We call them our guardian angels because they watch over and protect us all, each day. Let’s appreciate all of ours and thank their family members and loved ones who lend them to us each day.

This Thanksgiving, thank a police officer or firefighter for giving us the gift of safety.

Jerry and Linda Vandeveer
