Letter to the editor: Another example of government overkill

Monday, December 2, 2013 - 9:04 am

We have a caption call phone. It has a screen onto which your callers' words are projected.

Recently I received a letter notifying me that it is now a federal offense for anyone who does not have a hearing problem to watch the screen or use it.

How dumb! Who was the Einstein who thought this one up, and who even voted for such nonsense?

First of all, why would a person not suffering from a hearing loss want to watch the screen? There is a slight delay in projecting the message.

Second, how will this “law” be enforced? Perhaps by an overhead drone with a high-tech camera capable of peeking in one's window or by an FBI agent with binoculars planted in a next-door neighbor's tree?

Our legislators at work. Doesn't Congress have more important business to tend to?

To the author of this piece of work, all I can say is, “Come on, man!”
