Purdue’s big football recruiting weekend got a big payoff thanks to Maryland linebacker Jawhaun Bentley.
The 6-2, 245-pounder, a three-star prospect rated as the state’s No. 14 player according to Rivals.co, has committed to Purdue. According to Gold & Black.com, he picked the Boilers over Iowa, West Virginia, Maryland, Pitt and Rutgers.
Bentley is Purdue’s 11th commitment and the fourth on defense. The Boilers have one four-star commitment -- linebacker Gelen Robinson of Lake Central in Indiana -- and six three-star prospects.
Also committed are offensive linemen Denzel Ward and Kirk Barron, receivers Trae Hart and Gregory Phillips, defensive end Will Colmery, quarterback David Blough, defensive back Tim Cason, athlete Simmie Cobbs and kicker Austin McGehee.
Bently is one of at least 18 recruits making official visits this weekend. More commitments are expected in the next few days.
Purdue coaches spent the past week on the road recruiting. They will return to the road next week before the evaluation period ends next Sunday.
