Indy fullback has also emerged as target for Luck

Sunday, December 8, 2013 - 12:01 am

His position might be a throwback, but Stanley Havili continues to move forward as Indianapolis Colts fullback.

While Havili doesn't carry the ball very often (six carries, seven yards), he has shown flashes as a viable pass receiver out of the backfield. Havili has 15 catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns.

He also paves the way for running backs Donald Brown and Trent Richardson and helps protect Andrew Luck at quarterback.

Here's a quick look at Havili as the Colts face the Bengals at 1 p.m. today in Cincinnati:

Ht: 6-0; Wt: 243; Age: 26; College: USC; How acquired by Colts: Acquired in a trade for defensive end Clifton Geathers on March 28.

Fast facts: Has started seven games for the Colts…In the Colts' win over the Broncos, he caught a 20-yard touchdown pass and forced a fumble on special teams, which led to another Colts score. …Caught a career-high three passes for 29 yards in win over Tennessee last week. …Played in 15 games, starting two, for the Eagles in 2012, ranking third on team with 11 special-teams tackls. …Was team captain as a senior at USC. …He and wife, Jocelyn, have one child.

Havili on the Colts offense undergoing so many changes in personnel: “We just have to have guys step up, and respond. Like coach says, it's next man up. No matter who it is in this locker room, you have to prepare like you're going to play. Overall, it's just execution and staying on the little things.”

Havili on improving as a player: “The biggest thing for me is blocking. For a fullback, I'm not the biggest fullback out there. I take pride in being a good blocker and excelling at it every week and I think that's been my main focus.”

Havili on his play so far: “Overall this season, like everyone else I've made mistakes, but they're little mistakes where it's fixable. I think I've played OK, but I can play better, definitely.”

Havili on his skills as a pass receiver: “I think I'm able to break tackles and make plays in space. I did it in college and I think I can do it here.”

Havili on his room for improvement: “For me, as a player in the NFL, it's what I can do this game. You never know what week you're going to get cut, it's that serious. For me it's just excelling at what they ask me to do week in and week out, and if they ask me to do more, I'll do it.”
