Credit-card spree leads police to robbery suspect

The customer-service line at a MasterCard company served up a robbery suspect for Fort Wayne Police last week, tracking his shopping store by store until police caught him.Dominic A. Price, 20, of the 5900 block of Waycross Drive, has been charged with robbery, a Class B felony, in Allen Superior Court. A probable cause affidavit filed with the charge against him says that he confronted a woman Dec. 5 outside her mother's home and, at gunpoint, forced her to hand over her cell phone and her purse.

The victim called police, and as police were gathering information for a report from her, the victim and her mother already were calling credit-card companies to deactivate cards. While the victim was on the phone with a MasterCard company, she learned that card had been used five times since it had been stolen. Only two minutes before the victim's call to the company, the card had been used in a store at Southgate Plaza, according to court documents.

Patrol officer were dispatched to Southgate. As they arrived, the customer-service rep said the card was being swiped at another store at Southgate.

In the affidavit, police report that they found Price, who matched the description of the robber and detained him, with a woman who was accompanying him. The victim identified him as the man who robbed her, police report.
