Did 5 or 7 inches of snow fall on Fort Wayne? It's both

The National Weather Service says the heaviest snowfall in Indiana from the weekend storm was reported in the northeast, with the community of Hudson in Steuben County, 30 miles north of Fort Wayne, receiving 9.5 inches of snow. The community of Leesburg in Kosciusko County received 8.2 inches, and in northwest Indiana, Hobart received 8 inches.In Fort Wayne, Greg Shoup, meteorologist for WANE, NewsChannel 15, The News-Sentinel's media partner, said amounts around the city have varied. Fort Wayne International Airport reported the lowest amount at 5 inches with the highest amount reported on the north side near Interstate 469 with 7.1 inches. Central Fort Wayne has 7 inches and north Fort Wayne had 6 inches. Around the area Kendallville had the highest amount on the ground reported at 8.8 inches.

Shoup said the National Weather Service trains and pays observers to go out and do the measurements, which could explain some of the variations in the amounts.

The National Weather Service said5 inches is the official total amount for the storm in the Fort Wayne area, taking into account the snow that fell Friday night and Saturday.
