I would like to nominate and recognize for carrier of the year my News-Sentinel carrier, Barbara Sheets. She started this route in November 2008 just two weeks after my wife died.
Barbara not only brought my paper to the front door, but she also checked to make sure I was OK. She does this for many of her older customers in the Heather Ridge addition.
Last December, Barbara found me lying on the floor in my hallway. I had fallen and hit my head after a dizzy spell. Barbara immediately went to my neighbors for help and called my children. I ended up in the hospital with pneumonia.
Thanks to my angel Barbara, I got another chance in life. Since then I have been living in Coventry Meadows Assisted Living in an apartment. I am getting along fine, and Barbara still stops by and makes sure I still get the newspaper. She has become a true friend.
Life isn’t supposed to be easy when you’re almost 89 years old. I do believe that God puts many angels on this earth, and Barbara Sheets is one of them. I also appreciate and am thankful for my children, the nurses and staff that have helped me.
We all need a kind, caring, considerate, special person in our life that goes the extra mile like Barbara Sheets.
