Fort Wayne Police are investigating the shooting death of a man inside a home early Wednesday. Also n a separate case, at midnight three people were shot, one critically, while attending a New Year's party.
At around 3:28 a.m., police officers responded to the 3600 block of Logan Avenue in reference to a shooting. Officers found a man inside the residence suffering from an apparent single gunshot wound, according to police spokesman Officer Jason Anthony. Paramedics arrived and pronounced the victim dead.
Detectives interviewed witnesses who were inside the residence when the shooting occurred. Investigators aren't sure exactly what happened in the shooting, according to Anthony. Crime scene technicians collected evidence.
The Allen County coroner's office will release the victim's identity along with the cause and manner of death.
Police are also looking into a separate shooting case that left one victim in critical condition and two others in serous condition.
At around midnight, police responded to the 4800 block of Reed Street in reference to a shooting, according to Anthony. Officers found the three male victims inside a residence. All three were conscious and appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds.
Paramedics took the three victims to a local hospital in serious condition. Upon arriving at the hospital, one victim was downgraded to critical condition by a physician.
Preliminary reports indicate the victims were attending a party. Witnesses reported several party-goers stepped out onto the back patio, where they then heard gunshots and the three victims were struck, according to Anthony.
Detective are currently interviewing all the witnesses. Crime scene technicians collected evidence. No arrests have been made and police had no suspects at press time.
Police were helped at both shooting scenes by the Fort Wayne Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority.
Both shooting cases remain under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County prosecutor's office. The fatal case is also being investigated by the coroner's office.
