President Obama heads up the worst administration we have had in my lifetime. However, our national problems go far beyond Obama. He may have aggravated them, but he did not cause all of them, and he obviously cannot resolve most of them.
If we want a more realistic culprit, we need to look at the electorate. Our national elections suggest that we are almost equally divided between conservatives and leftists, between those who want to renovate and those who want to innovate, those who want to get back to our foundational principles and institutions and those who want to move on.
As distracting and disruptive as the president is, he is only a symptom. The electorate is diseased and the germ is egoistic cynicism: I am the center and end of all things and only I really matter. More voters are becoming incarnations of Narcissus, the young Greek who fell so in love with his own reflection in a pool that he forgot to drink. Not a god choice for those who want to survive.
